Robin gets a High Tea for Mother’s Day!

How was your Mother’s day? I have to say this Mother’s Day was super special to me because I didn’t have to do a thing! Usually we organise a gathering for my mother-in-law, and some years we do something on an alternate day to make sure we can accommodate all the events. However this year my daughter, Carly, offered to host ME on Mother’s Day. When she suggested it I said “That would be great!” She suggested she wanted to do a High Tea, which is no small undertaking and in the lead up to Mother’s Day, I asked “do you need any help?” “No mom I got this.”

We arrived to her apartment on Mother’s Day, and she had already laid out all the pastries and sandwiches. She made cucumber and cream cheese sandwiches, egg salad sandwiches, ham and cheese quiche and spinach quiche, muffins, tarts, scones (of course with jam and cream!) and she didn’t have enough tea pots so she arranged for Aunty Louise to bring some spare ones. She even found me a cherry blossom tea – I was delighted as I love cherries.

Not only was I proud that she put this spread together all by herself, but that this was the first formal meal she hosted on her own (her boyfriend Chris helped too). Love it!

It was a proud moment for me, not just for the meal but for all of her achievements that had culminated for this event to take place. In the last 4 months she has started a full time job, got a place on her own (with a roommate), gathered kitchen supplies, gathered furniture and even homewares to furnish her new place. I was not even close to this productive at the age of 23!

So thank you Carly for your gift to me and Nanny on Mother’s Day. It is a memory I will cherish forever. Much love to you Carly. xx
